Mrs. Merlin Davis Rosa Hart was born July 19, 1920 on the Davis Place Plantation to the parentage of the late Carrie Rumph Davis.  She is the youngest of eight children; two sisters and five brothers, who preceded her in death:  Eddie Davis, Fred Davis, Buster Davis, E. B. Davis, Lewis Davis, Elnora Williams, and Martha Belvin.

At a young age, she joined the Shiloh Baptist Church of Henderson/Elko, GA.  There she served in many capacities.  She was a member of the Senior Missionary Board, the Kitchen/Food committee, President of the Usher Board, and Mother of the Church.

After sharecropping for numerous years, in 1969 she became employed by the Houston County Board of Education where she served on the cafeteria staff until her retirement in 1985.

Mrs. Rosa, as she was called, utmost delight was gardening beautiful flowers, caring for the sick and elderly, feeding anyone who was hungry, and raising her grandchildren.  After retirement, she continued to care for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1979 when Dorothy, her eldest child, passed away, she graciously accepted the responsibility of nurturing her four children:  Travis, Amy, Jarvis, and Rowena in addition to a grandchild she raised from birth, Martese.

In 1939, at the age of 19, she was united in holy matrimony to Charlie Hart, Sr.  In this union, 13 children were born.  Four of them preceded her in death:   Dorothy Helen Hart, Charlie Hart, Jr., Ora Dean Hart, and Eddie Henry Hart.

Mrs. Rosa leaves to cherish and live her legacy nine children:  Ruby Hart of Unadilla, GA; Myrtis (Grandy) Brown of Franklin Park, NJ; Carlestine Hart of Stockbridge, GA; Mary (Lester) Whitfield of Lithonia, GA; Herbert (Tunyuan) Hart of Korea; Linda Carter of Tucker, GA; Cathy Hart of Atlanta, GA; Sara (Royal) Truss of Columbus, GA; Kimberly (Jeffery) King of Jonesboro, GA; Six stepchildren. Two devoted grandchildren:  Kristiana Rose and Shannon Rose King.  A daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jeffery King, who dedicated their lives to love and care for her during her progressive illness.  Thirty grandchildren, forty-eight great-grandchildren, four great, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
