Shirley Durham Dalton

February 18, 1948 ~ March 23, 2018 (age 70)

Shirley Temple Durham Dalton was born on February 18, 1948 in Houston County to the late Mr. Gus Durham and Mrs. Rachel Allen Durham.  Shelley, as she was affectionately called, was the youngest of eight children.  She was born and reared in Haynesville, Georgia.  She was a 1967 graduate of Houston County training School.  She attended Fort Valley State College.  In 1969, Shirley moved to New Orleans, LA where she was employed by the City of New Orleans.  She retired after thirty years and returned home to Georgia.

Shirley was a kind, caring, loving, and affectionate person.  She had a great sense of humor and was known for her love of fashion and unique styles.  She was the life of the party. She loved to gather with her family and friends as often as she could. She loved to sing praises to God and enjoyed playing the tambourine. She loved her church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Walter "Nae" Durham.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Henry Lee Dalton; one daughter, LaTraci Durham, three grandchildren, Benjamin Mackey III, Tyre McRoyal and Trynt Durham; and one great-grandson, Vincent "Vinnie" Hughes, all of Warner Robins, Georgia. She is also survived by five sisters, Helen Moore of Atlanta, Georgia, Nellie Dixon and Dora Turner of Warner Robins, Georgia, Flora Green and Bennie Scott of Hawkinsville, Georgia; and one brother, Lee Gus (Thelma) Durham of Grovania, Georgia; and a devoted cousin, Lucille (Will) Pickett of Hawkinsville, Georgia; three stepdaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
